“I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.” Ecclesiastes 3:14 KJV

“It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.” Ecclesiastes 7:18 KJV
“Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.” Ecclesiastes 8:12-13 KJV
13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person.
14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NASB)
I. A Divine Revelation.
- There is a God in Heaven before whom all men should fear.
To fear the Lord is to consider God above everything and everyone else.
To fear the Lord is to do what is right in God’s eyes, even if it means that the outcome will likely not be in our best interest.
If we do fear the Lord, we will ask ourselves:
What does the Bible say?
What godly people can I seek for wise counsel?
How can I best glorify God in this situation?
What does God want me to do?
2. The guilt if we do not fear the Lord, is that we fear someone else instead. This is what Proverbs 29:25 means saying,
“Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”
To fear people is to hold a person or group of people (parents, friends, spouse, coworkers, etc.) above everyone and everything else.
To fear people is to do what other people want you to do, demand that you do, or pressure you to do even if it’s not what God wants you to do.
If we do fear people, then we are ask ourselves questions that cause us to make ungodly and unwise life decisions:
What do other people say?
Who can I find to agree with what I want to do?
How can I hide this from God and godly people?
What do other people want me to do?
There is a God in Heaven whose commandments all men should obey.
The the whole duty of all mankind is to obey the commandments of God with a reverential fear of Him.
II. A Divine Judgment
God is a Holy God
God shall bring every work into judgment
God shall bring every secret act into the Light.
Jesus tells us that both our comforts and our efforts find their real meaning and their place as we submit our entire lives to God.
“Seek he first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ” Matt. 6:33
