From infancy we are quieted. The most often used command to a baby is shhhh, hush, or some expression thereof used to quiet a crying baby. A babies cry is another form communication. I’m been where I’ve wondered why my baby girl was crying. Did she need feeding, changing, or some TLC?
The crying doesn’t stop with infants. Children do their share of singing the aches and pains from hurtful accidents. The scraped knees, sprains and broken bones. At least with these we have some idea of what is the cause of the crying and know what to do. However, I hear parents still hushing their kids even when they are hurting.
One might think after teenage years, mature adults would not be hushed. That they are not told to be quiet. Truth is the adults are still silenced. Unjust acts in the workplace will prompt some bosses to keep their co-workers silenced with threats and abuse.
“Silence of the Lambs” is my way of referring to God’s born again child, His lambs. As a child of God, meaning you have been born into His family through faith in Jesus Christ (His birth, life, death by crucifixion, and resurrection), you have those wanting to silence you.
People who know you as God’s child will want to silence you whenever you speak the truth of God’s Word.
The government of the United States of America tries to silence the Christian community whenever they rise up against unrighteousness.
As odd as it may sound, some houses of worship will seek to hush and silence the lambs of God because of fear, contention, and for the sake of showing unity in the face of disunity. There are other reasons.
I’m like the Apostle Peter who said, when questioned about his remarks,
Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they began to confer with one another, saying, “What shall we do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it will not spread any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any man in this name.” And when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:13-20 NASB)
Dear lambs of God,
Do not be silenced. Speak as God’s ambassador rightly dividing the Word of Truth that all mankind may benefit from the Gospel of Truth.
When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:27-29 NASB)
Be ready to give an answer to every man who should ask of you regarding your faith in Jesus.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (1 Peter 3:15 KJV)
Until next time,
