Saying #6 Word of Victory

Word of Victory! John 19:29-30

Our last two studies have been occupied with the tragedy of the cross. Now we turn to the TRIUMPH of the cross. “it is finished” is one word in the original Greek, yet in that one word ‘tetelestai’ is wrapped up the gospel of God.

‘It is finished’ is the declaration on the part of the Divine Redeemer that all for which He came from Heaven to earth to do is now done. The full price of our redemption was now paid.

I. Take a look at the completion of all the prophesies concerning his death.

There was a complete set of prophecies which had to do with the first arrival of the Savior. These prophecies were definite, personal, and all inclusive.

There is also a complete set of prophesies which have to do with the second arrival of the Savior. Just as the prophesies regarding the death of Jesus were literally fulfilled, we can expect the prophesies regarding the Second Coming of Jesus to be literally fulfilled as well.

II. Take a look at the completion of His suffering.

Jesus suffered at the hands of man
Jesus suffered at the hands of satan
Jesus suffered at the hands of God

The physical sufferings were excruciating, but even this was as nothing compared with the anguish of His soul. We cannot think too often of what the Savior endured in order to secure our salvation.

Now the suffering is ended. Divine holiness has been fully satisfied.
With a loud voice of triumph, the Savior exclaims, ‘it is finished.’

No longer in pain
No longer facing the mockery
No longer forsaken of God

III. Take a look at the God-man reaches His goal

Before The Lord Jesus came to earth a definite work was committed to Him. He came to do the recorded will of God. He came to buy our redemption.

On the last night before His death we find Him saying, ‘I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished work which thou gavest me to do.’ John 17:4

IV. Take a look at the accomplishment of the Atonement

Atonement means the act of Jesus whereby He reconciles man to God. It is Jesus reaching down to earth with one hand to take the hand of man and reaching up to heaven to take the hand of God and joining the two together.

Isaiah 59:1-2 tells us that sin separates us from God. Jesus unites us with God.

There are four proofs that Christ did finish the work.
The rending of the Temple. This shows the way to God is now open.
The raising of Jesus from the dead. This shows that God had accepted His sacrifice.
The exaltation of Christ to the right hand of the Father. This shows the value of Christ’ work.
The sending to the earth the Holy Spirit.

V. Take a look at the end of our sins

The sins of the believer transferred to Jesus. According to Isaiah 53:6, God laid on Jesus the sins of us all. If God laid my sins on Christ, they are no longer on me. There is still sin in me, due to the old nature. Christ will deliver me from this at my death or His Second Coming.

The believer is not under condemnation {Romans 8:1} but he that believes not is condemned {john 3:18}.

VI. Take a look at the destruction of satan’s power.

To many it appeared that Jesus was defeated. To believers, it was the greatest TRIUMPH.

The devil thought he had one.
He was counting his chickens before they hatched
He thought it was party time.

Day One: Can’t you see his sinister grin, hear his hideous laugh and imagine him doing the demonic dance.

Day Two: Can’t you see him frolicking around in a frightful frenzy or parading around in pitiful pride?

Day Three: Joyous in gestures of jubilation and delighting in days of devilment.

BUT WAIT A MINUTE!

THERE’S SOME COMMOTION ON EARTH

A STONE HAS BEEN MOVED

A DEAD MAN HAS COME TO LIFE! IT’S THE SON OF GOD. THE REDEEMER IS ALIVE!

Was he ever wrong! THE DEVIL HAD AN EXPERIENCE WORSE THAN THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST! TALK ABOUT THROWING COLD WATER ON SOMETHING…?

The devil was and is defeated and should be treated as a defeated enemy of God and God’s children. The devil is a loser!!

Do you believe ‘it is finished?’ Or are you trying to add to the finished work of Christ?
