What “Coming Out” Means

Hardly a week goes by that some News Agency reports of a person “coming out” to announce they are gay. What does that mean?

Well heres a list that comes to mind. They are in no particular order.

I need attention. As a celebrity, I’m used to a measure of exposure. I haven’t been getting that lately so let’s give this a try.

I don’t believe it. It is not a confusing statement. It is plainly stated.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:21-32 NASB)

I don’t like it. What? The above mentioned scripture.

I don’t care. What? The above mentioned view of God in scripture.

You are wrong. This is their position on how the god-fearing believe. They are just wrong.

You are wrong. This is the reply of those who come out as gay when the god-fearing state it is not our position but us voicing God’s position.

You are haters. God-fearing people who speak against gay lifestyle are all haters and isn’t God all about love. Our respond, yes He is, that’s why He has us tell you of sin. Because He loves you.

You are afraid. Yeah, right.

I’m not a believer so what does it matter? It matters to God and one day it will matter to you.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 NASB)

FYI: many will ‘judge’ me as a hater, unchristian, homophobic. Simply not true. I work closely with men and women who are gay. While I do not approve of their lifestyle, I do care about them. We are all created in God’s image and are to reflect Him in our lifestyle. Where I believe Christians can not be obediently living the life God wants for them while habitually practicing sin, neither do I believe a homosexual honors God with that kind of lifestyle.
