God Conscious

Last week my wife and I had the blessed privilege of seeing a nephew get baptized. He was the first of about thirteen candidates to get baptized on that day. During the abbreviated message the pastor used the phrase ‘God Conscious.’ He shared enough to define what he was meaning by the term. I do not have the skills to write like he does to speak. I have often talked about God conscious but never actually called it that.

One of the best ways to define it is to use the phrase popular about a decade ago. It is the WWJD concept. What Would Jesus Do? The push for society to think of WWJD was a means to get them to be conscious of God. The bible states it as

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 2:5 NKJV)

The argument goes somewhat like this, the more individuals are ‘God conscious’ the less likely they are to engage in casual sin. The approach people take to swearing, infidelity, body markings, etc… reflect little consciousness regarding God and His designs for us to be happy.

What a though! God wants us to be happy. Since He created us, He knows the best way for us to be happy. Therefore He has been kind enough to tell us. Our role is to give Him a listen.

How often are you conscious, aware of, God?

Until next time,
