It’s a moral & spiritual event. Many christians are in favor and/or participate in it. Their participation indicates little knowledge of scriptural teachings on gambling.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:7-12 KJV)
The word gambling or gamble is not in the KJV of the bible. However, it’s reference is there in the phrase “casting lots.’ What is it that makes gambling a sin and those participating in it sinners? The soldiers cast lots for Jesus clothes at the crucifixion.Do you want to be associated with that practice?
1. It Displaces the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Focus is on winning money. Eyes and hope are not fixed on Jesus. Greed and the love of money is the ultimate gain. Lottery winnings are not God’s blessings but the devils lure.
Gambling is destructive. Lottery, gambling displaces the Lordship of Jesus Christ by taking control of our lives, our hopes. The hope in our lives as Christians is not in money but in The Lord.
2. It Dismisses our Faith in The Lord Jesus Christ.
To take part in gambling is to display a love for money. Love for money moves you to act more than faith in The Lord.
To gamble is to deny Jesus’ promise of Phil. 4:19. And the argument that winning the lottery is God’s way of providing forgets the teaching of God where you ‘cannot serve God and mammon.’
3. It Designates us with the world.
God says, Run from it. Flee from it. Seek righteousness.
Fight The Good Fight
You totally surrender to live for Jesus and your life may be richer than you could ever imagine. I bet ya. 🙂
Until next time,
