Christian Propaganda and the Presidency of the USA

This is a hard post to write. It has the potential to alienate me from my brothers and sisters in Christ. However, it is prudent for me to follow the direction I believe the Holy Spirit leads.

In complete fairness I should state my position. It is my conviction to be born in America is a gracious gift of God. This is in spite of the attitude of the nation moving away from God. Our country is moving farther and farther away from God and His design for righteous living.

At this point I want to focus on the reaction of Christians to the President of the United States. It is my conviction our current administration is not leading our nation in the path of righteousness. I am not convinced President Obama is indeed a ‘Christian” nor has a “Christian World View.”

With that in mind is it not expected he would lead the nation away from God?

I can respect the “Office” of the presidency without having to respect the “Person” of the presidency. I do not respect Mr. Obama. However, there is an appropriate Christian response.

My Facebook page has been inundated with negative posts, remarks, and innuendos about Barack Obama and his associates. What troubles me is the sharing of what is not verifiable, what is likely touched up photos and comments added to photos to make them say something different than initially intended.

There’s enough garbage associated with President Obama without having to resort to propaganda. And there is no place in the righteous life of God’s children to be a part of sharing and disseminating this type of propaganda.

As for me, I’d rather have a God-fearing, Bible-believing person with a relationship with Jehovah God than an infidel. However that does not license me to disseminate propaganda.

Consider this passage:

Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:1-8, 10 NASB)

I guess the lesson I am making is while you may not favor the ‘person’ you can favor the ‘office’ of the presidency.

Prayers welcomed.
Respect appropriated.
God glorified.

Until next time,

Hoss
