Save, save, save. That’s the dream behind the warped intention of taking a leave of absence from your employer in order to accomplish, acquire, and assertain a period of rest, relaxation and recovery. In other words, a vacation.
I say “dream” because none of that is reality! Let me tell you what reality is as it relates to a vacation. It is:
Not saving money but losing money! Gotta buy all the things you forgot to get and the new things you suddenly need to buy.
Not quiet meditation but busy business about nothing. “Momma.” “Momma.” “Momma.”
Not recuperation from the strain, toil, and demands on your body.
Not well behaved offspring but whining from the youngest to the oldest.
Not enjoying your grill purchased with your own hard earned money but watching it fly through the air and discovering the road doesn’t give. The grill WILL!
Not a single unit family but extended family, friends, special interest, and certain unknowns showing up.
Not a bonding time for family, nature or even God. It is enduring annoyances like blabbering young kids, belly aching older kids, and the forces of nature encompassing you with bucket loads of moisture, and God’s whisper becoming a thunderous attention-getter!
Not privacy when you shower, shave and eliminate human waste. Camping doesn’t afford such normal benefits.
Not returning home fulfilled. It getting home and realizing you need a leave of absence from your employer in order to accomplish, acquire, and assertain a period of rest, relaxation and recovery. Add a leave of absence from family to that list.
