I have a lot of books. All shapes and sizes. Mostly religious but some fictional as well as non-fictional. I have books that bring happiness, some bring sorrow. Then it occurred to me. My heart sank as I realized what is the saddest book I have.
It contains dates, names, and the blessed event. It marks the recorded places, persons involved and the recipient. It’s accuracy is imperative. It becomes a part of history. That history is what makes the book sad. There are some good stories but regrettably most are extremely sad.
History usually reveals a high percentage of persons who stray away from the book’s suggested path. That book is The book of Baptismal Certificates. It contains copies of the baptismal certificates issued to the persons I baptized. When I survey the names, I am deeply saddened to find where and what these folks are doing and in some cases what they are not doing.
The book of Baptismal Certificates is my most saddest book.
Until next time,
