If Jesus Spoke At Your Church….
What would he say?
1 Peter 1:1-8
Romans 3:23; 6:23
You are headed down the road when a group of motorcycle riders come around you. There’s about 50 of them on their Harley’s. The jackets say Hell’s Angel’s. Not a problem until for some unknown reason your car horn gets stuck. All the banging and yelling doesn’t help. Horn continues to blare. Faces of fury glare your way!
My friend you are in a serious situation! I believe this would be the first statement Jesus would make.
We are told to “let this mind (attitude) be in you as was in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Philippians 2:5
I. You have a Serious Situation
A. You are all born in sin
B. You do not take sin seriously.
Girls who got pregnant out of wedlock were hidden away until they could have the child. Not any more. There is no sense of shame in sin anymore.
We learn to be TOLERANT. This is evidence of our LOVE for others. So far we are okay. However what happens is our display of love demonstrated by being tolerant and not judging, brow-beating, etc has been received as ACCEPTANCE. We are failing to communicate that our acts of Christian love and tolerating ungodly behavior is not an indication of accepting wrong, ungodly, and sinful behavior.
Tolerance > Love > Acceptance = proper Christian response. No, it isn’t!
Tolerance > Love > Repentance = proper Christian response! Bring one to genuine repentance.
People are coming out of the closet with pride in their sinfulness. There is no sense of shame in sin anymore.
Lying, stealing, cheating, murders, law breakers, are the norm. Why? There is no sense of shame in sin anymore.
I read in the news where a mayor was being tried for embezzlement of city funds. During the trial, this mayor was being honored at a local restaurant. The pastor at the First Baptist Church was called on to be a character witness. The mayor was guilty and found guilty. How can something like this happen. There is no sense of shame in sin anymore.
How do you feel about your sin?
C. Jesus takes sin seriously.
II. You have a Solid Solution
1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
A. A Great Mercy
B. A Living Hope
C. A Bodily Resurrection
III. You have a Steadfast Salvation.
1 Peter 1:4-5 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
